What are nutrients?
Nutrients are substances that are involved in the creation of every molecule in the body. The body needs more than 45 nutrients, and the ways that nutrients are used are as varied as the molecules, cells, and tissues they help to create. Carbohydrates, proteins, and fats (called macronutrients) are broken down (metabolized) to give the body energy. Vitamins and minerals (called micronutrients) are not themselves metabolized for energy, but they are crucial in helping the macronutrients convert to energy.

How do vitamins and minerals work?
Vitamins and minerals play an important role in the body's ability to function properly. For example, they can provide the key the body needs to unlock energy stored in food. Vitamins are organic substances and minerals are inorganic elements that come from the soil and water and are absorbed by plants or eaten by animals. Vitamins fall into two categories: fat soluble and water soluble. The fat-soluble vitamins — A, D, E, and K — dissolve in fat and can be stored in your body. The water-soluble vitamins — C and the B-complex vitamins (such as vitamins B6, B12, niacin, riboflavin, and folate) — need to dissolve in water before your body can absorb them. Because of this, your body can't store these vitamins. Any vitamin C or B that your body doesn't use as it passes through your system. So you need a fresh supply of these vitamins every day.

Will supplements interact with my current medications?
Before you start supplementing your daily nutritional intake it is important to assess your current health situation with a professional healthcare provider. Whether you do that with a medical doctor, naturopathic doctor, herbalist or eastern medicine doctor note it is important to take this step as we are all individuals with unique needs.

What is the difference between “vegan” and “vegetarian”?
Vegetarianism is the practice of a diet that excludes meat (including game and slaughter by-products), fish (including shellfish and other sea animals) and poultry. There are several variants of the diet, some of which also exclude eggs and/or some products produced from animal labor such as dairy products and honey.
The vegan diet is a form of vegetarianism which excludes all animal products from the diet, such as meat, poultry, fish, dairy products, eggs, and honey. Vegans oftentimes also omit all animal products from all products they use and consume.

Why are Vitalize and Rejuvenate vegan while Balance is vegetarian?
Balance is vegetarian because strains of bacteria used in our probiotic typically use milk derivatives in the processing; however there is not actual milk in the product. We label it as only vegetarian because we highly respect an individual’s choice to lead a vegan lifestyle and we want to make sure our products are labeled clearly.

What is the difference between “IU” and “mg”?
These are both standard reference units for different kinds of nutrients. “IU” stands for International Unit and is the standard for measuring fat-soluble vitamins, which include vitamins A, D, E and K. The abbreviation "mg" stands for milligrams, or one-thousandths of a gram.

Why do you put rice flour in your products?
Rice flour is used as a thickening agent. We use rice flour rather than wheat flour because it is easier to digest and it is gluten-free which is something many of our customers value.

What are probiotics and why are they important to health?
Research shows that 80% of your immune system actually lives right in your digestive tract.  Everyday a power struggle for health happens there. It is all about "good" vs. “bad” bacteria—a clash that affects your digestion and your body’s defenses. Burdens like stress, poor food choices, pollution, free radicals, or even not enough sleep take up residence in your digestive tract creating imbalances. If the bad bacteria overpower the good, a chronic cycle takes hold and hinders your body’s natural ability to defend itself.

In a nutshell, the balance of bacteria in your digestive tract controls whether your immune system is functioning well or not.  If your immune system is compromised, you are an easy target for viruses and infections.

Probiotics are live microorganisms which add good natural “flora”  or "good" bacteria and inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria.  At first, probiotics were thought to be beneficial in creating microbial balance, inhibiting germs (or pathogens) and toxin producing bacteria. Today other helath beneftits are being studied including alleviation of chronic intestinal inflammatory diseases, prevention and treatment of pathogen-induced, urogenital infections, and atopic diseases.

Did you know if you consume antibiotics for an infection it takes your digestive tract one full year to get back to a normal balance?

TrueBloom's Balance probiotic offers a concentrated blend of seven different types of helpful bacteria—most probiotics offer just one or a few.  Research shows that everyone responds differently to different strains of probiotics so having a variety of strains to offer your body makes the probiotic more beneficial.  The other thing to look for is CFU or colony forming units. We overstuff our probiotic so you know it is helping.  Most of our customers say "we can feel it working".  We also add concentrated cranberry seed flour to promote a healthy urinary tract.    Our capsules are specially coated to ensure Balance Probiotic will pass through your stomack an dbe absorbed in your digestive tract for maximum health benefits.

What does the 10 billion CFU mean in regards to Balance Probiotic?
CFU stands for colony forming units, which is the measure of viable microbes in a probiotic. Unlike in direct microscopic counts where all cells, dead and living, are counted, CFU measures only viable (or living) cells. CFU amount should be the same as that shown to be effective in clinical studies. Scientific literature has documented health benefits for products ranging from 50 million to more than 1 trillion CFU/day.

Do any government bodies regulate the supplement industry?
Yes, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulates statements made about nutritional products. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates the      Supplement Facts Panel. However, we believe we have a huge responsibility to our customers. We believe in transparency and communicating exactly what is in our products and how to use our products for best results. We also strive to communicate our business practices of giving back and being green to demonstrate that we operate our business according to our values.
